Mindfulness and studies confirming its benefits are everywhere. While rooted in tradition, it is an adaptable practice incredibly relevant to modern life. It can be done anywhere under any circumstances, and lowers stress and improves focus and sleep. Most importantly, it is a crucial tool for both becoming more at home in yourself and skillfully engaging in the wider world. However, making it a foundation for good living requires an understanding of its purpose, benefits, and methods, and support from a teacher as you make it part of your life’s routine. While shorter than an MBSR course, many of the same fundamentals are introduced and explored in four 90-minute classes and a four-hour retreat, all online. These include: * How (and whether) to sit * Mindfulness of Breath * Attentional Stability * Walking Meditation * Mindfulness of the Body * Feeling the Tone of a Moment * The Power of the Pause * Mindfulness of Thoughts and Emotions * Stress and Resilience * Mindful Self-compassion * Spacious Awareness * Mindful Technology Use * Mindful Activism

Sarah Jane Shangraw is a Boston-based meditation teacher, Insight Yoga mentor, and end-of-life doula with more than a decade of experience encouraging presence, peace, and purpose among her students and clients. Sarah Jane’s interest in Buddhism, yoga, and psychology is long-standing, and in her teaching she weaves together their methods in an informed way. Her passion for using inner methods to support people through changes and transitions is informed by her own experiences with divorce, step-parenting, and the deaths of loved ones.

In 2018 Sarah Jane earned a rare endorsement to teach Insight Yoga from its founder Sarah Powers. She has numerous certifications and identifies as a life-long learner, currently immersed in a two-year meditation teacher training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

Sarah Jane retreats annually and works to uncover her unconscious bias in an effort to keep her practice and teaching fresh and responsive. In addition to her classes, coaching, and courses, she offers training to women incarcerated at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution-Framingham. She is also a musician and enjoys spending time at her tiny cottage in upstate New York.
